Pakistan and China are actively engaged in ongoing discussions to bolster the security of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan. Ambassador Khalil Hashmi emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to this “national responsibility,” highlighting close cooperation between the two nations in information sharing and the development of standard operating procedures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens.

These talks are ongoing, reflecting a high degree of mutual trust. Ambassador Hashmi acknowledged the complex security environment but expressed confidence in Pakistan’s capability to counter and defeat terrorist forces.

The urgency of these discussions has been underscored by recent incidents, including a suicide blast near Karachi airport in November 2024 that resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals. The Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for this attack.

In February 2025, during a meeting in Beijing, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to implement enhanced security measures for Chinese nationals and infrastructure projects in Pakistan. The joint declaration emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to investigating terrorist attacks involving Chinese personnel and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

These developments highlight the ongoing efforts by both nations to address security challenges and ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
