Diplomatic Channels Remain Open Between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has confirmed that diplomatic channels with Afghanistan are active, with contacts continuing despite recent strains in bilateral relations. The announcement was made during a weekly press briefing by FO spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi on January 8, 2026.

The spokesperson highlighted that Islamabad is seeking concrete assurances from Afghan authorities to stop cross-border terrorism, which remains the key source of tension between the two neighbors. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militant groups of using Afghan soil to launch attacks, while the Afghan Taliban denies these allegations.
