Noor Zaman Clinches WSF World U23 Squash Championship Title
In a thrilling comeback, Pakistan’s squash sensation, Noor Zaman, emerged victorious in the final of the inaugural WSF World U23 Squash Championships on Thursday. He defeated Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in a captivating match.
Despite facing a 2-0 deficit, Zaman demonstrated remarkable resilience. He rallied to win the next three sets, securing the title with a final score of 3-2.
Reflecting on his victory, Zaman shared that his mindset after being down two sets was simply “to focus on my game.”
“I was determined to fight until the very end,” he added, highlighting his unwavering spirit.
En route to the final, the second-seeded Zaman overcame Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran in the semi-final held at Karachi’s DHA Creek Club on Wednesday.
Chandaran retired from the match when Zaman had already taken a two-game lead.
“The crowd support has been incredible, and I’ll give everything to win this title for Pakistan,” Zaman stated after his semi-final triumph.
‘Global Recognition for Pakistan’
Zaman’s stellar performance drew accolades from top government officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his congratulatory message to the nation, remarked, “Noor Zaman has brought global recognition to Pakistan through his performance.”
He further added, “The whole nation is proud of Noor Zaman.”
The Prime Minister also expressed optimism about the future of squash in Pakistan, hoping the country will “regain its lost glory in the field of squash.”
President Asif Ali Zardari praised Zaman for his “outstanding performance in the championship, including the final,” noting that he has brought “pride to Pakistan in the sport of squash.”
Zardari conveyed his hopes for Zaman’s continued success and offered prayers for his future achievements.
