U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has clarified that no new entry procedures have been introduced for foreign nationals at any U.S. airports, despite increasing concerns tied to political developments in President Trump’s second term. CBP officials emphasized that existing laws and regulations remain unchanged and that traveler screening continues as before.
CBP Supervisor at Washington Dulles Airport confirmed that social media reviews and phone inspections may occur during secondary screening, but only if specific concerns arise; these are not routine checks for all incoming travelers.
Entry refusals can occur under longstanding rules, even for visa holders, and may involve reasons like prohibited items, questionable social media content, or inadequate documentation of travel purpose. However, CBP asserts that these practices reflect ongoing legal discretion, not new policy changes.
Despite reports suggesting heightened restrictions linked to political views, especially regarding Gaza, CBP maintains that there has been no alteration in enforcement. Standard practices such as submitting travel manifests, pre-arrival targeting, and coordination with other agencies continue, with approximately 60,000 daily travelers processed at major hubs like Dulles.
Travelers are advised to carry supporting documents like itineraries, hotel bookings, or proof of employment to ensure smooth entry. CBP continues to operate within its lawful authority while safeguarding both privacy and national security.
