Islamabad experienced heavy monsoon rainfall with 99 millimeters recorded in H-8, 78 millimeters in Golra, 46 millimeters in Saidpur, and an average of 70 millimeters across the city. Following the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration launched immediate clearance operations under the supervision of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner.
Within hours, all underpasses, low-lying areas, and major highways were cleared of rainwater, ensuring smooth traffic flow across the capital. Sensitive locations, including the Diplomatic Enclave and Saidpur Village, were fully cleared, while Sector G-11 was reported to be 70 percent cleared by the time of briefing.
Chairman Randhawa, who personally oversaw operations in the field alongside CDA, MCI, and district teams, emphasized that public convenience and safety remain the top priority. He directed that joint teams from CDA’s Emergency and Disaster Management, MCI, and the administration maintain their presence in the field, actively assisting citizens and monitoring flood channels.
Modern drainage machinery was deployed to keep water flow in streams and nullahs uninterrupted. Continuous monitoring of Islamabad’s main highways, stormwater passages, and underpasses was ensured to prevent blockages. Teams were instructed to promptly remove all obstructions and guarantee swift drainage from affected areas.
CDA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to follow precautionary measures during heavy rains. For any emergencies, residents can contact CDA and district administration helplines at 16 and 1334. The administration has assured that all complaints will be addressed promptly without delay.
With coordinated efforts from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s guidance, CDA, MCI, and the Islamabad administration managed to restore normalcy on the capital’s roads soon after the downpour, setting an example of rapid disaster management and teamwork.
