In a significant development under the Kuram peace agreement, rival factions have formally submitted their weapon surrender plan to the Kohat Commissioner. According to sources, the district administration, police, and law enforcement agencies will facilitate the surrender process, ensuring a smooth transition towards peace.
To maintain transparency, surrendered weapons will remain accessible for review by the concerned parties at any time. Moreover, individuals will be permitted to retain legally licensed firearms for personal protection, with the government issuing official permits as needed.
Convoy Departs from Tall for Kuram
As part of the ongoing peace efforts, a convoy of 30 vehicles has departed from Tall for Kuram, marking a step forward in the reconciliation process.
Speaking to Geo News, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif stated that both factions have agreed to surrender heavy weaponry. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to issuing legal firearm licenses for personal security purposes.
Additionally, the process of demolishing bunkers in Kuram is actively underway, with all such structures set for removal to foster a safer environment.
Commitment to Sustainable Peace
Elders and tribal representatives involved in the peace talks have expressed their confidence in the initiative. Speaking to the media, Jirga member Munir Bangash emphasized that the government is responsible for ensuring their security once weapons have been surrendered.
Another Jirga member, Irshad Hussain Bangash, highlighted the flexibility demonstrated by both sides in the interest of lasting peace. He also hinted at a positive update regarding the reopening of the Tall-Parachinar Road in the near future.
