ISPR DG to Brief Nation on Security Concerns
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, will address a press conference today at 3pm, focusing on Pakistan’s current security challenges.
The announcement comes amid a surge in terrorist incidents and heightened tensions along the Pak-Afghan border. The press conference is expected to cover counterterrorism operations, border management issues, and the government’s recent appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
Lt Gen Chaudhry has previously highlighted concerns about unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban troops at Pakistan’s border posts, which allegedly facilitates terrorist infiltration. He explained that the Pak-Afghan border is uniquely complex, with 29 tribes divided across both sides, making population movement difficult to control.
The press conference will also likely touch on Pakistan’s partial reopening of border crossings at Torkham and Chaman. These crossings were opened specifically to allow United Nations humanitarian aid shipments, including food, medicine, and school supplies for Afghan children. Officials clarified that the reopening was conditional, limited to aid only, and did not extend to trade or immigration.
This briefing comes at a critical time, as Pakistan faces mounting security threats and regional instability. Analysts expect the ISPR DG to outline ongoing military strategies, coordination with civilian authorities, and measures to reassure the public about national security.
The press conference underscores the military’s role in counterterrorism and border management, while also addressing the broader implications of Pakistan’s evolving civil-military dynamics following the creation of the CDF.
