The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a significant operation to address unauthorized constructions in Islamabad, resulting in the sealing of multiple illegal marquees and commercial structures across various areas of the federal capital. This initiative is part of a broader campaign directed by the CDA chairman to eliminate encroachments and ensure adherence to building regulations within the city.

Details of the Operation

Teams from the Directorate General of Building & Housing Control, in collaboration with the Enforcement Directorate, conducted the enforcement drive in Zones IV and V. The operation targeted structures found to be in violation of the Building Control Regulations 2020 (amended 2023). Prior to the crackdown, the CDA had issued 15-day notices followed by 7-day show-cause notices to the owners, instructing them to regularize their buildings or settle pending dues. Due to non-compliance, the authority proceeded with sealing and demolition actions.

Structures Targeted

Among the sealed structures were:

  • Blessings Marquee (Thanda Pani, Lehtrar Road): Sealed after being found operational without authorization.
  • Liansa Marquee (Islamabad Expressway): Construction work halted during ongoing renovations.
  • Punjab Cash and Carry (Naval Anchorage Access Road): Sealed while under construction.
  • Wasna Palace: Sealed, encompassing both under-construction and occupied sections.
  • White House Marquee (River Gardens): Sealed after being found operational without proper authorization.

CDA’s Commitment to Urban Development

A spokesperson for the CDA reiterated the authority’s dedication to maintaining planned urban development in Islamabad. This operation underscores the CDA’s resolve to enforce building regulations and address unauthorized constructions that compromise the city’s structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

Residents and business owners are urged to ensure compliance with the city’s building regulations to avoid such enforcement actions in the future.
