Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, has underscored the necessity of implementing judicial reforms aimed at delivering timely justice and reducing the backlog of cases. Key initiatives proposed include the introduction of advanced information technology systems, such as the e-Affidavit system to streamline filing processes and a Case Management System that allows litigants and lawyers to access certified copies instantly.
In line with these reforms, a four-member committee has prepared a draft of new Supreme Court rules to modernize judicial procedures. This committee, formed under Chief Justice Afridi’s direction, includes Justices Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi. The proposed amendments aim to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the judicial system.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Afridi has initiated visits to remote districts to address challenges faced by the judiciary at the grassroots level. This effort seeks to ensure swift delivery of justice and improve the functioning of district courts.
These measures reflect the Chief Justice’s commitment to reforming Pakistan’s judicial system, focusing on timely justice and the effective use of technology to enhance legal proceedings.
