The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially launched a monthly cleaning schedule for overhead water tanks and systematic maintenance of filtration plants across Islamabad. This step aims to ensure that residents consistently receive safe and clean drinking water for daily use.

Supervised Maintenance and Cleaning

The initiative is being carried out under the supervision of the Director General Islamabad Water, following directives from CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Chief Commissioner Islamabad. Roughly 100 filtration plants are currently operational in various sectors of Islamabad.

  • Filters in these plants are being replaced regularly.
  • Repair and maintenance tasks are conducted on a scheduled basis.
  • Residents had earlier raised concerns about the unhygienic condition of overhead tanks, leading CDA to introduce this formalized monthly cleaning system.

Installation of Flow Meters for Efficient Monitoring

In addition to cleaning, CDA has started installing flow meters on filtration plants. These meters are designed to:

  • Track filter usage.
  • Monitor water consumption.
  • Determine which plants need more frequent filter replacements.

So far, around 40 filtration plants have been equipped with flow meters, allowing targeted and timely maintenance.

Regular Water Quality Testing

To maintain water quality standards:

  • CDA conducts monthly internal laboratory tests.
  • Additional testing is arranged every two to three months through the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).
  • These measures are aimed at building residents’ trust in the safety of CDA’s supplied water.

Citizens’ Role and Complaints Helpline

To address water-related complaints quickly, CDA has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp helpline (03357775444). Through this channel, residents can report:

  • Filtration plant issues.
  • Water supply disruptions.
  • Any other water quality concerns.

The Islamabad Water Department has assured residents of round-the-clock service and urged citizens to cooperate by promptly reporting problems.
