Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, inaugurated the first phase of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway near Qayyumabad Interchange in Karachi. Demonstrating personal commitment, he drove his vehicle on the newly opened expressway and paid the toll tax of 100 rupees.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah accompanied Bhutto during the drive. In his address, Shah acknowledged the delay in constructing the expressway, referencing a development package introduced three decades earlier by the late Benazir Bhutto, which included this project among others like the Lyari Expressway.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Malir Expressway is the largest public-private partnership project in Sindh and Pakistan. The expressway spans 39 kilometers, extending from Korangi Creek Avenue to the Malir River. The partial opening covers a 9.1-kilometer segment from Qayyumabad to Shah Faisal.
This inauguration marks a significant milestone in Karachi’s urban development, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure and alleviate traffic congestion in the city
