US Charge d’Affaires Underscores Robust Pakistan-US Relations
Natalie Baker, the US Charge d’Affaires, reaffirmed the strong bond between Pakistan and the United States on Wednesday, conveying optimism regarding their future collaboration.
At the US Embassy in Islamabad, during the celebration of the 249th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence, Baker stated, “Tonight we commemorate our independence and reflect on the shared principles of liberty, equality, self-governance, and the pursuit of happiness that unite our countries.”
The event was well-attended by notable figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, senior Pakistani government officials, members of the diplomatic community, business executives, civil society representatives, and cultural personalities. Baker acknowledged the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Highlighting the historical depth of the relationship, Baker mentioned that the US was among the first nations to acknowledge Pakistan’s independence in 1947.
She added, “For 78 years, our partnership has deepened, grounded in mutual respect and a shared aspiration for opportunity and prosperity.”
She noted that through agencies like USAID, US development cooperation has bolstered Pakistan’s education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. She also praised the enduring personal connections at the core of bilateral relations.
Baker commended the collaborative efforts of US and Pakistani military personnel, asserting that their joint training and service have improved regional security and saved lives.
“Our cooperation in defense and counterterrorism has yielded significant results,” she remarked, citing Pakistan’s recent apprehension and extradition of the Daesh-K operative responsible for the 2021 Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan.
She expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government and security leadership for promoting regional peace and stability, specifically recognizing the contributions of PM Shehbaz and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Addressing economic cooperation, she noted the recent Pakistan Critical Minerals Investment Forum and the increasing partnership in digital innovation and emerging technologies.
She also mentioned collaborative investments in cryptocurrency and other forward-thinking ventures, indicating a ‘shared vision for sustainable growth.’
In a diplomatic reference to recent regional events, Baker acknowledged joint Pakistan-US efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, calling it a demonstration of constructive cooperation.
“Together, we are exploring new horizons in trade, security, culture, technology, and even cricket,” she remarked, alluding to her engagement with Pakistani society.
The celebration, which featured traditional American cuisine and a performance by the United States Air Force band, honored US national identity and the lasting ties between the American and Pakistani people.
In closing, Baker thanked the attendees and reaffirmed Washington’s dedication to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship. “Our relationship is robust, and the best is yet to come,” she concluded. “May the United States and Pakistan continue to prosper together.”
