Pakistan Football Team Suffers Setback: Rayan Mohammed Injured Ahead of Qualifier
The Pakistan men’s football team has encountered a significant setback as young striker Rayan Mohammed has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury, just before their AFC Asian Cup qualifier match against Myanmar.
Rayan, who represents Dundee Football Club in Scotland, received his first call-up to the Pakistan squad. However, his international debut will be postponed as he sustained the injury during the team’s training camp.
Sources indicate that the 19-year-old forward has since gone back to Scotland to begin his recovery. Rayan also posted an image on social media displaying his injured leg.
The match against Myanmar will proceed without Rayan. It is not expected that Pakistan will name a replacement for the striker.
The team is currently in training for the match until their departure, scheduled for June 7, under the guidance of head coach Stephen Constantine.
Pakistan is in Group E along with Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Syria, and will be participating in their second AFC Asian Qualifier match.
They previously experienced a 2-0 loss against Syria in their opening match in March.
Last week, the PFF announced a provisional squad of 27 members for the upcoming match. The squad includes Ali Hayder Shah, a forward from Denmark, and Ryan Mohammad, a winger based in Scotland.
Notably absent from the squad are Mohammad Saddam, Imran Kayani, Easah Suliman, and Otis Khan.
Defender Mohibullah has rejoined the national team.
The provisional squad comprises three goalkeepers: Yusuf Butt, Saqib Hanif, and Hasan Ali.
The defensive lineup consists of Mamoon Moosa, Mohammad Fazal, Waqar Ahsan, Abdul Rehman, and Umar Hayat, in addition to Abdullah Iqbal, Haseeb Ahmed Khan, and Mohibullah.
The midfield includes Alamgir Ghazi, Harun Hamid, Ali Uzair, and Yasir Arfat. Moin Ahmed, Umar Ali, Abdul Samad, Rahis Nabi, and Zaid Shah are also set to reinforce the midfield.
The forward line features Fareedullah, Adeel Younas, McKeal Abdullah, Mohammad Waheed, Shayak Dost and Ali Hayder.
