Pacers Arrive in Oklahoma City After Weather Delay
The Indiana Pacers faced inclement weather conditions on Tuesday en route to Oklahoma City for their upcoming National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals matchup on Friday.
The Pacers’ charter flight, which was originally destined for Oklahoma City, was rerouted and instead landed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to the adverse weather.
To circumvent the storm, the aircraft took a more circuitous path, resulting in a delayed arrival in Oklahoma City, approximately three and a half hours behind schedule.
Prior to the Pacers’ departure from Indianapolis, weather forecasts had indicated potential severe weather, including flood watches and thunderstorms, for Oklahoma City and its surrounding areas on Tuesday.
The flight’s diversion ultimately led to the delay in reaching Oklahoma City’s airport.
A tornado was observed in Norman, Oklahoma, situated 20 miles from Oklahoma City. However, the Pacers’ flight landed 120 miles away, in the opposite direction.
On Saturday, the Pacers secured their first Eastern Conference championship since 2000 with a Game 6 victory against the New York Knicks.
Before their journey to Indianapolis, Pacers center Turner motivated the team, emphasizing the importance of capitalizing on their Finals opportunity.
Turner’s Quote
“You spend so much time thinking about getting there, but it’s like, you’re here now,” Turner stated. “You didn’t really spend a lot of time thinking about, ‘OK, when I’m here, I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that.’ It’s like, ‘Let’s just get there.’ So now, that milestone has been achieved. It’s about doing something with the opportunity.”
The NBA Finals series is set to commence on Thursday night in Oklahoma City, marking the Thunders’ first appearance in the Finals since 2012.
