Martinez Highlights Ronaldo’s Positive Impact on Young Players
Portugal’s coach, Roberto Martinez, suggests that Cristiano Ronaldo is not considering retirement anytime soon.
Ronaldo concluded the Saudi Pro League season as the leading goal scorer with 25 goals for Al Nassr. He also played a key role in Portugal’s Nations League campaign, netting five goals in five appearances.
Portugal is set to face Germany in the UEFA Nations League semi-final on Wednesday.
During a discussion about the upcoming match in Munich, Martinez pointed out the beneficial influence of Ronaldo’s presence on the team’s younger members.
“His conduct is carefully observed both on and off the field. Players are expected to demonstrate strong team values and commitment,” Martinez stated.
“The opportunity for players like Joao Neves and Mora to interact with Cristiano is invaluable for their future development with the national team,” he added.
When questioned about Ronaldo’s potential retirement, Martinez responded that it remains uncertain.
“It’s speculative, much like discussing the weather. Everyone has their own viewpoint, but ultimately, even Cristiano doesn’t have a definitive plan.”
If Portugal triumphs over Germany, they will proceed to the final on June 8 at the Stuttgart Arena, where they could face either Spain or France.
Martinez emphasized that the Nations Cup serves as a crucial preparatory phase for the World Cup, noting that competing against formidable teams such as France, Spain, and Germany provides excellent preparation.
“Over the past two and a half years, this team has displayed remarkable resilience. Challenging matches against teams like Germany, and potentially Spain or France, are ideal opportunities to further refine the team in preparation for the World Cup.”
