Kyrgios Withdraws from Wimbledon Due to Knee Injury

Nick Kyrgios has announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon due to a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. The Australian tennis star confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Since his defeat by Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has been plagued by injuries affecting his foot, knee, and wrist. He has participated in only four singles matches this season.

Kyrgios secured his first singles victory since 2022 at the Miami Open in March but had to withdraw from the French Open because of ongoing knee problems.

In an update shared on Instagram, Kyrgios communicated his injury status and his withdrawal from Wimbledon. He stated, “I’ve encountered a minor setback in my recovery, and regrettably, I won’t be able to return for the grass season this year.”

He further added, “I understand how eagerly you anticipated seeing me compete, and I sincerely apologize for any disappointment. However, this is merely a temporary setback, and I am already dedicated to working towards a stronger comeback.”

In 2022, Kyrgios demonstrated significant potential, reaching the Wimbledon men’s singles final. Later that year, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open. However, he has only made one Grand Slam appearance since then.

During the first round of the Australian Open in January, he was defeated by Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain, leading him to suggest that it might have been his last match in Melbourne.

Since the conclusion of 2022, Kyrgios has played in just six matches, achieving a single win against Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Miami Open.
