Malir Jailbreak: Dozens of Inmates Escape

In a significant security breach, approximately 45 to 50 prisoners escaped from Malir Jail in Karachi. Sindh’s Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, described it as a severe jailbreak.

Immediate Response and Re-apprehension Efforts

Lanjar informed the media that approximately 30 to 35 of the escaped inmates have been captured again during an ongoing operation to locate them.

Government Oversight and Directives

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been updated and has instructed the Home Minister to personally inspect the jail to assess the situation.

Initial Findings on Escape Route

Preliminary investigations indicate that the prisoners did not breach the jail walls but rather exited through the primary entrance, according to the Home Minister.

Official Presence and Coordination

The Inspector General of Prisons, Qazi Nazir, has arrived at Malir Jail. The Sindh Minister for Prisons is also present, maintaining close contact with jail authorities.

Reinforcements and Ongoing Search

A substantial contingent of Frontier Corps (FC) personnel was promptly dispatched to the location.

A combined search operation is currently in progress to locate the remaining escapees. Lanjar stated that all available intelligence and security assets, including checkpoints and surveillance, are being utilized.

Casualties and Disciplinary Measures

Rescue services reported that three FC personnel and one prison officer sustained injuries in the incident. One prisoner reportedly died during the ensuing commotion.

The Sindh Minister for Prisons confirmed that disciplinary actions will be taken if any officials are found to have been negligent. The pursuit of the remaining escapees will persist until their apprehension.
