Pacquiao Returns to Boxing After Four-Year Hiatus

Former American boxer Roy Jones Jr. is supporting Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming fight against Mario Barrios. The match is scheduled for July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao’s retirement from boxing occurred four years prior, following a loss to Yordenis Ugas, the former WBA world welterweight champion.

With anticipation building for Pacquiao’s return to the ring, Roy Jones Jr. has voiced his opinion regarding the forthcoming bout.

In a recent interview, Jones Jr. declared his support for Pacquiao, stating, ‘I’m backing him.’

Jones Jr. Remarks on Pacquiao’s Condition

‘The sheer fact that Pacquiao can condition himself to compete for 12 rounds at 46 years of age surpasses the capabilities of most individuals,’ Jones Jr. commented.

He further added, ‘How many individuals possess such endurance? Many 26-year-olds struggle to complete a single round, yet he achieves this at 46, doubling their age. Respect must be given to Manny. I believe Manny has a strong chance, and I’m rooting for him.’

Should Pacquiao emerge victorious against Barrios in July, he will claim the title of the oldest world welterweight champion in boxing history. He would surpass his own previous record, established in 2019 with a win over Keith Thurman to secure the WBA title, marking his most recent triumph in boxing.

Barrios was elevated from interim to full champion last year after Terence Crawford’s departure from the division and successfully defended the title in his last appearance with a split draw against Abel Ramos.
