FBR Secures Major Legal Wins, Unlocks Billions in Revenue
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has achieved substantial legal triumphs, notably a significant victory against Bahria Town (Private) Limited, which has unlocked Rs36.14 billion in revenue that was previously held up in litigation.
This development follows focused attention and explicit directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aimed at enhancing the FBR’s legal approach and ensuring positive outcomes in court, as stated by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
“The FBR has greatly strengthened its legal framework, leading to considerable success in resolving long-standing cases.
“In response to the Prime Minister’s instructions, the FBR aggressively pursued pending cases in the Islamabad High Court. Consequently, the court last week decided in favor of the FBR in cases totaling Rs36.14 billion,” the statement elaborated.
Among the key achievements for the federal tax authority last week were three high-value tax cases, with the most prominent being the case involving Bahria Town (Private) Limited.
“In this particular case, the IHC supported a recovery decision favoring the FBR, amounting to Rs26.446 billion.”
This case had been under consideration at various appellate levels for two and a half years.
Additionally, the IHC ruled in favor of the FBR in two other corporate cases involving a combined sum of Rs9.7 billion.
“These wins clearly demonstrate the government’s dedication to economic advancement,” the statement emphasized.
According to the Ministry of Finance, trillions of rupees in revenue remain tied up in various legal battles, which hampers the nation’s ability to collect revenue.
Therefore, a unified legal strategy was formulated for representation and litigation, which is now producing significant results for the FBR, it further stated.
