Australia A Squad Unveiled for Series Against Sri Lanka A

The National Selection Panel (NSP) has announced the 16-member Australia A team that will compete in a multi-format series against Sri Lanka A in Darwin next month. The squad is a mix of experienced players and promising young talents, with Jake Weatherald, the leading run-scorer in the 2024–25 Sheffield Shield season, leading the squad.

Jason Sangha and Kurtis Patterson have earned spots due to their outstanding Sheffield Shield performances. Campbell Kellaway, a rising star who had a breakthrough summer for Victoria with two first-class centuries, is also included.

Liam Scott, Bryce Jackson, and Henry Thornton, all consistent performers in the One-Day Cup, have been selected. Ollie Peake and Jack Nisbet, emerging prospects, are included as part of the squad’s youthful core.

Players who had pre-existing overseas commitments were not considered for selection. The captain for the series will be named closer to the start of the competition.

All five matches between Australia A and Sri Lanka A will be available to stream live on Kayo Sports and cricket.com.au.

Pre-sale tickets for the 2025–26 international cricket summer will be available starting June 3, with general public sales beginning on June 13.

Selectors’ Rationale

George Bailey, Chair of Selectors, expressed excitement about the upcoming series and the rationale behind the squad selection.

“We anticipate a competitive Australia A series in Darwin and are eager to experience the unique Northern Territory winter climate, which should provide varied conditions.

“We’ve selected a well-rounded squad that provides a range of options, which we believe will be needed over the course of the series.

“Jake Weatherald, Jason Sangha, and Kurtis Patterson all had excellent Sheffield Shield seasons and have earned the chance to compete against international competition.

“In addition, the squad has a strong contingent of emerging talent who will gain experience from playing alongside seasoned players like Nathan McSweeney and Matthew Renshaw, who bring considerable experience at the ‘A’ level.

“Given the timing of this series, the NSP collaborated closely with State and Territory associations to determine availability and identify players who would benefit from this opportunity.

“Several players with existing overseas opportunities or tailored off-season programs were not considered for selection. We anticipate that those players will be available for Australia A’s tour of India in September, as we prepare for the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Series.”
