Upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final
The highly anticipated final is slated to commence at Lord’s from June 11-15.
Australian all-rounder Beau Webster conveyed his anticipation on Sunday about delivering a noteworthy performance in the ICC World Test Championship Final against South Africa, starting on June 11, with the aim of assisting Australia in retaining their championship title.
The 31-year-old Tasmanian enhanced his reputation during his time in county cricket, amassing 172 runs and securing 10 wickets across four matches for Warwickshire. This followed a 2024 season with Gloucestershire, where he scored 233 runs and took 16 wickets in just four games.
Speaking with Australian media representatives on Sunday, Webster voiced his admiration for Green, hoping the team will find a way to include both players in the lineup.
“He [Green] represents a special talent and an exceptional cricketer. He’s only going to improve. At just 25, he has a substantial amount of cricket ahead of him. I’m uncertain about the composition of the top six or the selection approach regarding all-rounders, but I certainly aspire for both of us to be included,” he stated.
Webster noted that his decision to play county cricket was strategic, intended to strengthen his chances for national selection by showcasing his abilities in conditions mirroring those expected at Lord’s.
“I relish challenging myself with the Dukes ball under diverse conditions. I hope to continue impressing selectors, making it difficult for them to exclude me from the starting XI,” he added.
Webster also reminisced about his memorable Test debut, where he scored the winning runs at the SCG to secure a 3-1 series victory against India.
“It felt like a whirlwind experience. Everything transpired rapidly, and I regret not fully appreciating the moment. Being out there with Travis [Head] is an unforgettable memory. To date, hitting those winning runs remains my most cherished cricketing moment,” he remarked.
Now a strong contender for one of the sport’s major stages, Webster believes his journey has only just begun.
“I am immensely proud of my accomplishments thus far. However, this is merely the beginning, and I aim to build upon what I have established in the Baggy Green,” he concluded.
Since his Test debut against India in January 2025, Webster has demonstrated promise with both his batting and bowling skills.
His contributions of 150 runs and three wickets in three matches, along with impressive performances in English county cricket, secured his spot in the Australian squad for the WTC Final.
Notably, the ICC World Test Championship final is scheduled for June 11 at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, featuring South Africa and defending champions Australia.
South Africa currently leads the WTC 2023-25 standings, having won eight of their twelve Test matches.
Following a 1-1 draw in a home series against India and a 2-0 defeat in New Zealand, they recovered with series victories against the West Indies (1-0), Bangladesh (2-0), Sri Lanka (2-0), and Pakistan (2-0).
Conversely, Australia occupies the second position, with 13 wins and four losses out of 19 Tests.
Their journey included a 2-0 victory against Sri Lanka, a 3-1 triumph over India, a 2-0 series win against New Zealand, and a 1-1 draw with the West Indies. They also achieved a 3-0 whitewash against Pakistan, while the Ashes series against England concluded in a 2-2 draw.
