Raducanu Voices Concerns Over Practice Court Access at French Open

Emma Raducanu has criticized the French Open’s organization, citing insufficient practice time on the prominent courts before her second-round match against Iga Swiatek, the defending champion.

Raducanu secured a victory against Wang Xinyu of China with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in their initial round encounter at Roland Garros.

Due to her recent performance struggles, Raducanu is unseeded in the French Open, which means she must compete on the smaller courts.

The British tennis player expressed her dissatisfaction with the limited practice opportunities on the main courts, suggesting that differential treatment is being afforded to certain players.

Raducanu’s Statement

“I genuinely believe it’s challenging because the tournament doesn’t really facilitate adequate court time on the primary courts or the match courts,” Raducanu stated.

“I feel that some players receive preferential treatment. The transition from the annex or other courts to Chatrier or a stadium court is significant. It’s not an easy adjustment.”

Raducanu conveyed her desire for increased access to the larger courts to better acclimate to the match environment.

“I wish we had more opportunities to practice on the stadium or bigger courts, particularly when we are scheduled to compete on them,” Raducanu added.

“The court today had a charming, intimate feel. You could really sense the fans and their encouragement. Sometimes, on a larger, less crowded court, it can feel somewhat empty. On the smaller court, you are right in the heart of the atmosphere.”

Raducanu is scheduled to compete against Swiatek in the second round on Wednesday.
