Thunder Set to Clash with Timberwolves in Game Five
MINNEAPOLIS: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s impressive form persisted as the Oklahoma City Thunder narrowly defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves with a score of 128-126 in Monday’s NBA playoff game, held at Target Centre.
The Thunder have now increased their series lead to 3-1 after securing victory in Game four of the Western Conference finals.
Gilgeous-Alexander played a crucial role for the Thunder, achieving a playoff career-best of 40 points, along with providing 10 assists and securing nine rebounds.
Jalen Williams also posted a playoff career-high of 34 points, converting 13 of 24 field goals, which included an impressive 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, marking his highest number of three-pointers in a single game.
Fellow teammate and this season’s MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander, lauded Williams for his significant contribution during the contest.
“He performed exceptionally,” Gilgeous-Alexander commented.
“From beginning to end, he was outstanding. He made excellent decisions on where to position himself. He maintained an aggressive approach. He confidently executed every move. He demonstrated his true capabilities, justifying all the accolades he has received. He certainly proved his worth tonight.”
Chet Holmgren contributed with 21 points, nine of which came in the crucial fourth quarter.
The combined performance of Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams, and Holmgren represents the highest score by a Thunder trio in a playoff game since the team relocated from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008.
The Thunder dominated the first half, scoring 37-30 and 28-27 in the first two quarters, leading by eight points at halftime.
OKC maintained control, limiting the Timberwolves in the third and fourth quarters, allowing them to reduce the margin to just two points with scores of 28–25 and 41–38.
With only one more win needed to secure a spot in the NBA Finals, the Thunder are scheduled to face the Timberwolves in Game five of the series on Wednesday.
