Nadal to Receive Tribute at French Open with Tennis Legends in Attendance
Novak Djokovic announced Saturday that he, along with Roger Federer and Andy Murray, will participate in a tribute to Rafael Nadal at the 2025 French Open.
Djokovic described the gathering as an emotional reunion of four prominent figures in tennis, reminiscent of Federer’s farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup.
Following his 100th title win at the Geneva Open, Djokovic confirmed that he, Federer, and Murray would be present at the ceremony, anticipating a deeply moving experience.
“It promises to be a very special and emotional occasion for everyone involved. Alongside Federer and Murray, we will be there to celebrate. It will be a truly beautiful moment.”
Djokovic acknowledged the difficulty he faced maintaining motivation after Nadal’s departure at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals but stated he has since moved forward.
“Indeed, it was challenging to stay motivated without Nadal. I didn’t foresee it affecting me this way. A part of my drive diminished with his absence, and regaining that motivation was difficult. Fortunately, other factors inspire me,” Djokovic added.
“When Rafa retired, I experienced a feeling unlike any other. I questioned my next steps. There was a sense of disorientation, particularly on the court, where I felt deflated. Away from the court, the impact wasn’t as profound. However, after six months, I feel more resilient,” Djokovic concluded.
The French Open approached Nadal last year, but he was uncertain about his retirement plans at the time.
This year, however, the 14-time Roland Garros champion accepted the tribute proposal. The ceremony will occur at the Philippe-Chatrier Court on the tournament’s opening day.
