Sindh Education Department Launches Eye Screening Program for Students
The Sindh Education Department has initiated a province-wide eye screening program for students in government schools, addressing increasing worries about mobile phone usage affecting children’s eyesight.
The department has communicated with all district education offices, instructing school administrators to fully collaborate with the scheme. A non-governmental organization (NGO) has been authorized with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to conduct the screenings.
According to authorities, students throughout all districts will receive eye examinations, and those identified as needing vision correction will be given free eyewear. The program’s goal is to encourage early detection of vision impairments and improve children’s eye health.
Dr. Fouzia Khan, Chief Advisor of the Curriculum Wing, emphasized the growing issue of screen time. She stated, “Children’s eyesight is being negatively impacted by the use of mobile phones. To safeguard children from long-term vision impairment, school administrators must guarantee complete cooperation.”
Experts emphasize the importance of eye exams in detecting disorders such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, which can impede academic achievement and overall well-being.
Many students go undiagnosed as a result of financial constraints, a lack of awareness, and a lack of access to eye care in some locations. Health experts and NGOs have consistently pushed authorities to make eye screenings required during school enrollment.
This province-wide effort is regarded as a major stride toward resolving avoidable vision issues and assisting students’ learning and health.
