Munawar Achieves Remarkable Feat on Mount Everest
Accomplished Pakistani mountaineer Saad Munawar achieved a significant milestone on Saturday by successfully scaling Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.
Early this morning, Munawar proudly raised Pakistan’s flag at the summit. This achievement was made possible through the expert guidance of Dawa Gyalje Sherpa.
Previously, Munawar had also conquered Mount Aconcagua.
Last week, mountaineer Sirbaz Khan etched his name in history as the first Pakistani to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without using supplemental oxygen. He completed this monumental feat on Sunday with his successful ascent of Kangchenjunga.
Sirbaz, a resident of Hunza Valley, reached the summit of the 8,586m peak at 11:50 am local time, culminating a years-long ambition. Although he had previously climbed all 14 of the “eight-thousanders,” he had used bottled oxygen on two earlier ascents near the top.
To achieve the no-oxygen distinction, he returned this season to climb Annapurna in April and Kangchenjunga in May, both without any artificial oxygen support.
Quote from Sirbaz Khan
“Even though I had summited all 14×8000m peaks in the world, there was still something missing,” Sirbaz stated upon arriving at Annapurna. “When I first announced my project after summiting Nanga Parbat in 2017, my aim was simple: 14×8000m summits without using O2, and that’s why I returned.”
He is part of an exclusive group of approximately 70 climbers globally who have summited all 14 peaks above 8,000m. Fewer than 25 have accomplished this entirely without supplemental oxygen, an achievement requiring extreme endurance in the oxygen-deprived “death zone” above 8,000m.
His accomplishment comes less than a year after he initially completed all 14 peaks, a milestone that already solidified his position as one of Pakistan’s foremost high-altitude climbers. Nevertheless, he aimed to go further by re-climbing the two peaks where he had previously relied on oxygen.
