Warner Reflects on PSL Experience, Vows Return to Pakistan
LAHORE: Following Karachi Kings’ elimination from PSL 10 after their match against Lahore Qalandars at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, captain David Warner voiced his support for his teammates.
The Kings, after electing to bat first in the crucial game, posted a total of 190/8 in their 20 overs.
Warner spearheaded the innings, scoring a game-high 75 off 52 deliveries, which included five boundaries and three maximums.
Khushdil Shah provided late-order support with a quickfire 27-run cameo.
In response, the Qalandars chased down the 191-run target comfortably, securing victory with four wickets in hand and eight balls remaining, setting up an Eliminator 2 showdown with Islamabad United.
Abdullah Shafique shone for the Qalandars, scoring 65 from 35 balls, while Fakhar Zaman established a firm base with a swift 47-run innings.
Reviewing the defeat, Warner highlighted that the bowlers shouldn’t bear the brunt of the blame and also appreciated their fielding performance throughout the competition.
He described the conditions as challenging and acknowledged the Qalandars’ batsmen for applying pressure on the Kings’ bowling attack.
Warner stated, “It was a fluctuating tournament for us—we secured some wins but suffered defeats in matches we should have won. However, we played with confidence. Our fielding remained strong, and the bowlers shouldn’t be faulted as the conditions were difficult.”
He continued, “The pitch favored scoring, and the wind offered batsmen an advantage. Credit to them for pressuring our bowlers. Nonetheless, I cannot criticize the effort.”
Warner commended his Kings’ colleagues for their dedication, particularly acknowledging veteran pacer Hasan Ali for his ‘humble’ character.
The opening batsman expressed gratitude to the fans for their backing, adding he cherished his time in Pakistan and would certainly revisit.
He said: “These guys are remarkable. Their dedication in every training session was praiseworthy. Hasan Ali stands out as one of the most modest individuals I’ve encountered.
The encouragement from the crowd was incredible. I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone present for their support. The security arrangements were excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Pakistan. I will undoubtedly return. But now, I believe it’s time for some golf!”
