Power Cement to Establish 7.5MW Wind Power Project

Power Cement Limited (POWER) has revealed its strategy to implement a 7.5MW wind power venture, with operations slated to commence by fiscal year 2026, marking a substantial move towards enhanced sustainability.

The cement manufacturer, listed on the stock exchange, communicated this advancement during its corporate briefing session held on Wednesday.

The project is set to deploy a Goldwind turbine, boasting a 7,500 kW capacity, under a rental arrangement analogous to the firm’s existing solar agreements.

The company has indicated that the anticipated project conclusion is set for fiscal year 2026.

Following the project’s realization, wind energy is projected to constitute 11% of Power Cement’s total energy composition.

The corporation is already generating 34% and 6% of its energy via Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) and solar power, respectively. The remaining 60% of the energy supply is sourced from HESCO.

Established in 1981, Power Cement Limited serves as the primary entity within the Arif Habib Group, a distinguished financial and industrial collective. The company’s manufacturing facility is situated along the Motorway M-9 in Nooriabad, Sindh.

Previously recognized as Al-Abbas Cement Limited, the company was acquired by the Arif Habib Group in 2010.

Currently, the company operates three production lines, collectively achieving a clinker production capacity of 10,700 tons per day, resulting in an aggregate annual capacity of 3.21 million tons.

The company is considered a major entity in Pakistan’s southern region, possessing an overall annual cement production capability of 3.37 million tons, equivalent to 11,235 tons per day.

This declaration corresponds with a wider industrial movement in Pakistan favoring renewable energy sources, as firms endeavor to curtail energy expenses and lessen their reliance on the national grid.

In the preceding month, Thatta Cement Company Limited successfully finalized and initiated a 4.8MW wind power initiative at its Thatta, Sindh-based plant.

Earlier in the month, Ali Asghar Textile Mills Limited (AATM), a former textile business that has transitioned into a logistic service provider, disclosed its undertaking of a 1,00KW (1MW) solar power project, which has currently advanced into the execution phase.

In March, Tariq Corporation Limited unveiled intentions to install a 200KW solar power installation at its facilities.
