Jannik Sinner Considers Carlos Moyá to Replace Darren Cahill in Coaching Team

Reportedly, world number one Jannik Sinner is contemplating a significant adjustment to his coaching staff. Former coach of Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moyá, is being considered to join Sinner’s team after his recent defeat in the Italian Open final.

News outlets indicate that Moyá is being eyed as a potential successor to Darren Cahill, who is expected to step down at the close of the current season. If this transition occurs, it would represent Moyá’s subsequent major coaching engagement, following a fruitful period with Nadal.

Several weeks prior, the 1998 Roland Garros champion mentioned having received numerous coaching proposals. However, he stressed his prioritization of family time and his intention to take a break.

Moyá’s Statement

“Perhaps my perspective will shift in the months or years ahead, but presently, I am relishing this phase. A period of detoxification was essential after years of constant travel and competition. I am far from feeling bored,” Moyá conveyed to journalists at a Madrid event.

Sinner’s initiative is part of a broader restructuring of his support structure, which commenced last summer with the departure of his trainer and physiotherapist.

This restructuring occurred following Sinner’s positive test for clostebol, a prohibited substance, during the 2024 Indian Wells tournament. This resulted in a three-month suspension that concluded before the Rome Masters 1000.

Sinner’s most recent disappointment was in the Italian Open final, where Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1, thereby ending his impressive 26-match winning streak.
