Pakistan’s internet speed is expected to significantly improve with the expansion of the internet spectrum, as explained by Shaza Fatima in a recent Senate session. With Pakistan’s internet spectrum under pressure, Fatima mentioned that the country is now using 500 MHz of spectrum, resolving previous legal issues tied to spectrum cases. Furthermore, the nation’s submarine cables, which include eight active ones, will benefit from two new cables that will enhance internet speed and reliability.
Fatima also shared updates on audits by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), noting that the frequency of audits has doubled over the past year, ensuring better service quality. In the first five months of the fiscal year, Pakistan’s IT exports saw a 33% growth. She emphasized the importance of IT in contributing to the country’s trade surplus, noting a 25% increase in internet users and identifying issues mainly with mobile broadband services.
The government is addressing challenges faced by specific companies, as Fatima confirmed that the PTA is working to resolve issues involving three companies in particular. The future of Pakistan’s internet looks promising, with better speeds and more robust infrastructure on the horizon.
