Alex Pereira Denies Retirement Rumors, Claims Account Hacked
Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira, has refuted claims suggesting his retirement. These rumors arose after a puzzling tweet stirred considerable discussion within the mixed martial arts (MMA) sphere. Pereira asserts that his X (formerly Twitter) account was accessed without his authorization.
The speculation originated on Wednesday with a now-removed message from Pereira’s official X account. The post implied disillusionment with the UFC and hinted at a potential departure from the sport.
The controversial tweet stated: “I’ve consistently honored the UFC’s requests, but if they intend to trifle with me, we are capable of engaging in such conduct. I have never been critical of the UFC. However, in light of recent information, I am disheartened. I’ve previously considered ceasing my fighting career, and the latest developments might signify the commencement of that cessation.”
The message rapidly gained traction, triggering widespread conjecture concerning Pereira’s future with the UFC.
However, Pereira addressed the matter promptly by sharing a video on his official Instagram profile. He disavowed the tweet’s validity, affirming that his account had been compromised.
“I’ve been bombarded with messages from individuals who saw a post on my Twitter,” Pereira stated in the video.
“I was unaware of it—my account was hacked. It has been some time since my last post. I will resolve this issue. I am uncertain about the specifics. I maintain a positive rapport with the UFC. Regrettably, some individuals are inclined to engage in malevolent actions. That concludes the matter.”
Pereira, whose most recent fight occurred in March resulting in the loss of his UFC title to Magomed Ankalaev, is reportedly in negotiations for a rematch with the Russian competitor.
He clarified that he has no intention of retiring and remains dedicated to the sport.
