Punjab Issues Safety Guidelines for Armed Conflict and Aerial Attacks

The Punjab government has released a set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for residents, outlining necessary actions to take during potential armed conflicts or aerial assaults. The government is urging citizens to remain calm and adhere to specific safety and evacuation protocols.

The advisory, issued by the Welfare Wing of the Services & General Administration Department, aims to equip households throughout the province with essential knowledge for emergency situations. The emphasis is on secure sheltering practices, having adequate emergency supplies, and understanding the correct steps for evacuation.

Preparedness Measures

The guidelines recommend that residents identify a safe, interior space within their homes that lacks windows, such as a basement or a central room.

Essential Emergency Kit

Individuals are also encouraged to assemble a fundamental emergency kit that includes:

  • First-aid supplies
  • Bottled water
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Flashlights
  • Portable chargers
Actions During an Alarm or Warning

Should an alert or warning be issued, families should immediately switch off all lights to minimize visibility, proceed to their designated safe area, reinforce all entrances, and disconnect gas lines.

The guidelines highlight the importance of utilizing stairwells instead of elevators when moving to lower levels of a building.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event of a mandated evacuation, residents must comply with official instructions without delay. They should carry vital documents and emergency provisions, and ensure all utilities are turned off prior to leaving their homes.

The department has reminded everyone to maintain composure, stay informed via official alert channels for the latest information, and offer assistance to neighbors, especially the elderly or individuals with disabilities.
