Harsh Dubey Replaces Injured R Smaran in Sunrisers Hyderabad Squad

HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced that Harsh Dubey, a young left-arm spinner, will be joining the team, stepping in for the injured R Smaran for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.

The 22-year-old Smaran from Karnataka, who is a batter, had previously been added to the squad, taking the place of Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa. However, his time with the team has been cut short due to an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season. The specifics of the injury have not been revealed.

Dubey, who is also 22 years old, is a promising all-rounder from Vidarbha. He recently gained attention for achieving the highest number of wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season. During the 2024–25 season, he secured 69 wickets, surpassing Ashutosh Aman’s previous record of 68 wickets from 2018–19, and played a crucial role in Vidarbha’s championship victory.

In first-class cricket matches, Dubey has claimed 97 wickets in 18 games, maintaining an average of 19.98. However, his performance in limited-overs formats has been more modest. He has taken 21 wickets in 20 List A matches, with an average of 34.66, and 9 wickets in 16 T20 matches, with an economy rate of 6.78.

Dubey was signed at his base price of INR 30 lakh. It remains to be seen whether he will be immediately included in SRH’s playing XI.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently facing challenges in IPL 2025 and is in ninth place on the points table, having won only three of their ten matches. With their chances of reaching the playoffs looking slim, SRH will be aiming to finish the season strongly. Their upcoming match is against Delhi Capitals on May 5, 2025.
