Contaminated Milk Found in Karachi’s Tea Stalls
Karachi, a city celebrated for its dynamic culture, boasts a thriving nightlife characterized by its ubiquitous tea stalls, locally known as dhabas, which are scattered throughout the metropolis.
These chai dhabas are nearly omnipresent, offering a gathering spot for individuals from all sectors of society. Young and old, students and pensioners, and working professionals converge to share conversations while enjoying tea and snacks.
However, recent findings have raised significant concerns regarding the quality of milk utilized in these establishments.
According to the Sindh Food Authority (SFA), milk samples were gathered from 127 dhabas across Karachi. Startlingly, over 100 of these samples were identified as tainted.
The SFA’s analysis revealed the presence of detergent, salt, and carbonates in the milk used at these tea shops. Furthermore, the tea powder itself was found to contain detrimental substances.
The authority has issued a warning, emphasizing that the consumption of such adulterated tea poses a risk to public health.
