Zimbabwe Announces Squad for England Test
Zimbabwe Cricket has revealed its 15-member team for the upcoming Test match against England, scheduled to begin on May 22 at Trent Bridge.
This singular game carries considerable weight as it represents Zimbabwe’s first Test appearance in England since 2003.
The Chevrons recently participated in a two-Test series against Bangladesh, which concluded with both sides level at 1-1, after the hosts responded to an initial three-wicket loss.
Zimbabwe has implemented three adjustments to the Test team that toured Bangladesh, with star all-rounder Sikandar Raza taking Johnathan Campbell’s spot.
In addition to Raza, Clive Madande has been included in the squad, replacing Nyasha Mayavo as the reserve wicketkeeper following recovery from an injury.
Vincent Masekesa, who achieved a five-wicket haul in his debut Test against Bangladesh, is notably absent, with Zimbabwe preferring the inclusion of pacer Newman Nyamhuri, considering the expected seam-friendly conditions in England.
Zimbabwe’s head coach, Justin Sammons, has voiced his assurance in his team’s capability to contend with a high-caliber team like England, emphasizing the importance of embracing the challenge ahead.
Statements from Head Coach Justin Sammons:
- “Regarding performance, my expectation is for us to compete to a standard that allows us to challenge one of the premier teams globally,” Sammons stated.
- “I want to see the players step onto the field with the belief that they are worthy, embracing and relishing the occasion.”
