Babar Acknowledges Zalmi’s Shortcomings in PSL Defeat

LAHORE: Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, admitted his team’s struggles in both their bowling and batting performances. This came after their significant 64-run loss to Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match held at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

After being put in to bat, the Gladiators managed to score a total of 178/7 in their 20 overs, with contributions from several batsmen.

Mark Chapman was the highest scorer, making 33 runs from 26 balls, including three boundaries.

Captain Saud Shakeel and Kusal Mendis both scored 32, while Finn Allen contributed a quick 31 runs from 16 balls at the start of the innings.

For Zalmi, Alzarri Joseph took three wickets, and Saim Ayub secured two.

When Zalmi batted, they were only able to score 114 runs in 15.2 overs while chasing the 178-run target.

Hussain Talat, a middle-order batsman, scored 39 runs from 34 balls, with four fours and two sixes.

Aside from him, only Babar Azam (12), Mohammad Haris (17), and Mitchell Owen (15) reached double figures.

Babar reflected on the defeat and stated that they did not perform well in either batting or bowling and were unable to implement their strategies effectively.

He added that the team’s management would assess their errors and ensure they improve as they continue in the tournament.

Babar Azam stated, “I don’t think we were good enough in either batting or bowling.”

“We didn’t execute our plans the way we should have. We will review what went wrong and ensure that we don’t make the same mistakes again.”
