Pakistan and China Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Stability
Amidst escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi following the Pahalgam incident, Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
This announcement followed a phone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during which Dar briefed his counterpart on the evolving regional dynamics.
Both diplomats emphasized the importance of fostering mutual respect and understanding, while also voicing their opposition to unilateral actions and policies of hegemony.
In addition to engaging with China, Pakistan has also reached out to other allied nations, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Egypt, to update them on the situation stemming from the deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIJOJK), where 26 tourists lost their lives.
Without presenting any substantiating evidence, New Delhi has implicated Islamabad in the attack and has implemented a series of punitive measures to degrade bilateral relations, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, canceling visas for Pakistani citizens, and closing the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
Pakistan has reciprocated India’s actions with similar measures and has cautioned about the potential suspension of the Simla Agreement, as well as the closure of its airspace to Indian flights.
Islamabad has denied any involvement in the aforementioned attack and has proposed participating in an impartial and transparent investigation to address the allegations.
According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, Islamabad and Beijing have agreed to sustain close communication and coordination across all levels to advance their shared objectives of promoting peace, security, and sustainable development within the region and beyond.
The Deputy Prime Minister firmly rejected India’s unilateral and unlawful measures, as well as its unfounded accusations against Pakistan, the statement added.
Acknowledging China’s consistent and steadfast support, the Foreign Office noted that Dar reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the strong Pakistan-China relationship and the shared vision of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
He further underscored Pakistan’s resolve to deepen bilateral cooperation across all sectors.
