Trump Leads Murphy in World Championship Clash

SHEFFIELD: Judd Trump, the world’s leading snooker player, established a 5-3 advantage against Shaun Murphy in their round of 16 match at the Crucible Theatre on Sunday during the World Championship.

Trump demonstrated resilience, recovering from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to claim the final three frames of the session.

However, in the eighth frame, Trump experienced a setback, narrowly missing a century break when he reached 98.

Having achieved 98 century breaks this season, Trump is now a strong candidate for a £100,000 award if he completes one hundred centuries before the tournament concludes.

Murphy secured the first frame with a 75 break and extended his lead. Trump, after a poor start, rallied to win the following two frames, leveling the score at 2-2.

A 103 break by Murphy in the subsequent frame briefly shifted the momentum, but Trump regained control, winning the next three frames.

Trump is scheduled to play another eight frames later, with the session restarting at 11:00 pm PKT, preceding the final session on Monday.

Only two players have previously achieved one hundred century breaks in a single season: Trump himself, with 103 in 2019-20, and Neil Robertson in 2013-14.

Separately, Zhao Xintong of China secured his first-ever quarter-final berth by defeating Lei Peifan 13-10.
