Pakistan’s Remittances Reach Record High of $4.1 Billion in March 2025

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday, Pakistan witnessed a substantial inflow of remittances from overseas workers, totaling $4.1 billion in March 2025. This marks the first time the country has surpassed the $4 billion mark in a single month.

The figures reveal a notable surge of 37% compared to the $2.95 billion recorded in the corresponding month of the previous year. Furthermore, on a month-on-month basis, remittances experienced a 30% increase from the $3.12 billion reported in February.

Cumulatively, during the period of July-March, FY25, remittances amounted to $28 billion, indicating a robust growth of 33.2% compared to the $21.04 billion received during the same period in FY24.

These inflows play a pivotal role in bolstering Pakistan’s external account, stimulating economic activities, and augmenting the disposable incomes of households reliant on these funds.

Wagas Ghani, Deputy Head of Research at JS Global, commented that the record-high remittances reflect growing confidence in the stability of the Pakistani Rupee, driven by a reduced disparity between interbank and open market exchange rates.

He attributed this stability to enhanced foreign exchange regulations and a recent increase in immigration, particularly to Gulf nations, which has further fueled remittance inflows.

However, some experts have cautioned that this upward momentum may not be sustainable in the near future.

Sana Tawfik, Head of Research at Arif Habib Limited, anticipates a normalization to around $3-3.2 billion in the coming months.

She also anticipates that Pakistan’s current account will reflect a surplus of approximately $700-900 million for March, driven by these record inflows.
