Interior Minister Praises Punjab Police and CTD for Successful Operation in Mianwali
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the Punjab Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for their effective operation against terrorists in the Makarwal region of Mianwali. He hailed it as a “notable triumph” in the ongoing battle against terrorism.
In a statement released from Islamabad, the minister expressed admiration for the courageous officers of the Punjab Police and CTD. Their operation successfully neutralized over ten terrorists.
He emphasized that the operation represented more than just a tactical achievement; it delivered a strong message to all subversive elements intending to undermine national peace and security.
Naqvi stated, “By sending more than 10 Khawarij terrorists to hell, the Punjab Police and CTD have showcased remarkable determination and skill.”
He added that these successes are vital for securing lasting peace in the nation and protecting the lives of innocent people.
The minister lauded the bravery and commitment of the officers involved, stressing that their prompt and decisive actions had thwarted the terrorists’ malicious intentions.
“I am immensely proud of the courage displayed by the officers in this operation. Their efforts are truly praiseworthy,” he noted.
Naqvi reaffirmed the government’s steadfast opposition to terrorism, assuring that all essential resources would continue to be provided to law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism completely.
“I offer sincere congratulations to the entire team of the Punjab Police and CTD on this significant accomplishment,” he concluded.
Security has been heightened in Mianwali and adjacent areas following the operation.
Authorities have confirmed that intelligence-led operations will persist to guarantee the total eradication of terrorist networks active within the area.
The nation experienced a steep rise in terrorist incidents in January 2025, with a 42% increase compared to the preceding month, based on data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a research organization.
The data indicated that a minimum of 74 militant attacks occurred nationwide, leading to 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 individuals were wounded, comprising 53 security forces personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
In Punjab, two militant attacks were documented, resulting in injuries to one security official. On the final day of January, militants initiated a major assault on a police checkpoint in DG Khan’s Jhangi area; however, security forces successfully repelled the attack without any casualties. Sindh and Islamabad each experienced one attack, though neither resulted in any fatalities.
