Celebrated Chef Zakir Hussain Passes Away at 58
Chef Zakir Hussain, a well-known culinary figure, has died at the age of 58. His nephew, Shayan Qureshi, confirmed that his uncle had been battling kidney disease and undergoing dialysis.
Shayan Qureshi mentioned that Chef Zakir received medical care in the United States. However, doctors suggested that further treatment would likely be ineffective, leading to the chef’s return to Karachi a month prior.
The funeral for the respected chef is scheduled to take place following the Asr prayer at Jamia Rashidiya, situated in Malir, Saudabad.
Born in Karachi on February 16, 1967, Zakir made a significant mark in the culinary arts, drawing inspiration from his family’s extensive culinary history.
His father, Abdul Aziz Qureshi, a highly regarded chef with a national airline, motivated numerous family members to pursue similar careers.
Zakir completed his early education at Kulsoom Bai Valika school and later attended Allama Iqbal College. His professional journey began in 1980 at the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi.
Chef Zakir expanded his culinary skills internationally, gaining valuable experience in Dubai, Singapore, South Africa, and Botswana. He also spent a decade in the United Kingdom, refining his skills alongside prominent chefs.
Returning to Pakistan in the early 1990s, Zakir became a familiar face on television, hosting various cooking programs and sharing his comprehensive knowledge of Pakistani, Asian, and international cuisines.
