PCB Addresses Claims of Unpaid Dues by Former Coach Gillespie
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded to allegations made by Jason Gillespie, the former head coach for the national men’s red-ball team, regarding outstanding payments. The PCB asserted that Gillespie prematurely ended his contract.
In a formal declaration, the cricket board explained that while both the PCB and Gillespie were required to provide a four-month notice before terminating the agreement, Gillespie’s departure was abrupt, thus contravening the conditions stipulated in the contract.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board firmly denies the assertions made by a former head coach concerning the alleged non-payment of his entitled compensation,” the PCB stated.
“According to the PCB representative, the former head coach vacated his position without adhering to the mandatory four-month notice period, which constitutes a distinct infringement of the agreed contractual obligations.
“The coaching agreement explicitly detailed a notice period that applied reciprocally to both entities involved, a stipulation of which the coach possessed comprehensive awareness.”
Gillespie, who was appointed as the red-ball head coach in April of the previous year, resigned from his position in December, just before the national men’s team’s limited-overs tour to South Africa, reportedly due to disagreements with the cricket board.
Since his resignation, Gillespie has become a vocal critic of the PCB.
Recently, Gillespie voiced concerns about outstanding payments from the cricket board, expressing his desire for a swift resolution.
“Indeed, without divulging specific details, I am still awaiting some compensation for completed work. I am in the process of addressing this matter,” Gillespie stated in an interview with a local media outlet.
“I must admit that this situation has been somewhat disheartening. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that it can be resolved expeditiously. I am hopeful that this issue will be addressed as quickly as possible,” he concluded.
