Cameron Green Details Dietary Management of Kidney Condition

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has offered details on the strict dietary regimen he adheres to in order to manage his chronic kidney disease, emphasizing the need for ‘smart choices’.

Green, who publicly disclosed his condition in December 2023, has been sidelined since Australia’s tour of England for limited-overs matches in September of the previous year.

The 25-year-old sportsman underwent surgery to address a back injury, which has kept him away from competitive cricket since.

Green is currently aiming to rejoin the national squad, supported by an upcoming five-game stint in the County Championship with Gloucestershire.

In a recent interview, Green discussed his health challenges, the obstacles he faces in his career, and how he balances his well-being with his professional aspirations.

“My kidneys won’t recover, but I can reduce the deterioration. It doesn’t prevent me from living a full life – I simply need to be selective,” Green stated.

“Maintaining good dietary habits is simpler when I am at home,” the 25-year-old added. “It becomes more challenging to find suitable food for my kidneys when I’m travelling for cricket.”

“This is particularly difficult when playing cricket almost continuously for 10 months each year across various countries.”

“Everyone deals with unseen health issues. For me, it’s about making conscious decisions daily to manage my condition effectively.”

Green further revealed that during his time in India for the IPL, a personal chef assisted him in planning his meals, which proved to be beneficial.

“During the previous IPL season, I collaborated with a chef,” Green mentioned.

“We created a meal plan featuring four nutritious options, including spaghetti, chicken dishes, rice, and poke bowls. This approach was very effective for me.”

“While my kidneys won’t heal completely, careful management can slow down the progression of the condition. Consistent discipline in managing my health should allow me to continue my career without significant impact.”
