Verstappen’s Potential Move to McLaren: A 2026 Speculation

Following a challenging Formula 1 season with Red Bull, Max Verstappen has faced considerable criticism. Now, commentators are suggesting a possible transition to McLaren in 2026.

In a recent discussion, F1 reporters Ewan Gale and Brandon Sutton shared insights into the Dutch driver’s future, particularly after Red Bull’s underwhelming performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The four-time world champion has alluded to a departure from Red Bull on multiple occasions. With Aston Martin reportedly preparing a substantial offer, Gale proposes that Verstappen might realistically move to McLaren instead.

Gale remarked, “Aston Martin will present a completely unique vehicle next season, which is appealing because it’s essentially a works team. That will attract Verstappen.”

He continued, “Whether he evaluates his options and feels uninterested, or if Adrian Newey influences him similarly to Ross Brawn with Lewis Hamilton before 2014, it could sway him. McLaren is the only other viable destination for Max. We understand Zak Brown is open to a deal. If Norris and Piastri have a significant conflict this season, might one consider a change? It’s possible.”

“That’s a somewhat unconventional idea, but Verstappen isn’t limited to Aston Martin. Other opportunities might emerge; after all, this is F1.”

Brandon Sutton advised that Red Bull should focus on retaining Verstappen, convincing him to disregard outside offers.

After a sixth-place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, despite starting seventh, Max Verstappen was surpassed by Oscar Piastri and McLaren, leading to criticism.
