Williamson Names ‘Next Fab Five’ and Favorite Shot

New Zealand’s premier batsman, Kane Williamson, has revealed his selections for the next generation of elite batsmen, including two rising stars from India and one of his countrymen.

Williamson, who was signed by Karachi Kings for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, is currently in India fulfilling commentary duties for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

During his time there, the right-handed batsman, who is currently considered part of the ‘Fab Four’ alongside Virat Kohli of India, Steve Smith of Australia, and Joe Root of England, was asked to nominate four batsmen who could comprise the next prestigious group.

Despite being asked for four names, Williamson offered five.

“The five players that come to mind are Yashasvi Jaiswal (India), Shubman Gill (India), Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand), Harry Brook (England), and Cameron Green from Australia,” Williamson stated in an interview with an Indian news outlet.

The former captain of New Zealand also interacted with fans during his India visit. One fan playfully asked him to name a shot from another batsman that he’d like to possess.

Williamson responded quickly, choosing Kohli’s flick shot over his own renowned cover drive.

“I think it would be Virat Kohli’s flick off his legs,” Kane Williamson commented.

The 34-year-old also voiced his respect for Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, mentioning that he enjoyed watching him bat growing up.

“My cricketing idol was a guy who played at the maidan (ground) we were just at, actually. Sachin Tendulkar, he is the legend. He’s still playing sometimes, I see,” the 34-year-old added.
