Earthquake Shakes Northern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: On Saturday, Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced tremors as an earthquake impacted several cities in northern Pakistan.

Initial reports indicate that Attock and Chakwal also felt the tremors, with jolts reported throughout the region and its adjacent areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the earthquake’s impact was felt in Peshawar, Mardan, Mohmand, and Shabqadar. So far, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage from any of the affected areas.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), PMD Islamabad, the earthquake struck at 12:31pm, registering a magnitude of 5.5 at a depth of 12 kilometres. The epicenter was located 60 kilometres northwest of Rawalpindi, at latitude 33.90 N and longitude 72.66 E.

An Islamabad resident stated, “My building in sector F-11 swayed noticeably. People quickly evacuated their homes.”
