In a significant move to modernize vehicle inspection processes, the Sindh Transport Department has introduced an online system for issuing fitness certificates for commercial vehicles across the province. This initiative, which commenced on March 25, aims to streamline procedures, enhance transparency, and curb corruption within the department.

Key Features of the Online System:

  • Digitalization of Processes: The new system transitions the fitness certification process to a digital platform, reducing paperwork and promoting efficiency.
  • Enhanced Security Measures: Fitness certificates now incorporate modern security features, including barcodes, to prevent the issuance of counterfeit documents.
  • Centralized Database: A central database of fitness certificates is maintained through an Android application, ensuring uniformity and accountability in the issuance process.

Establishment of Modern Inspection Centers:

To support the online system, the department has established two state-of-the-art fitness centers in Karachi:

  1. Zulfiqarabad Oil Tanker Terminal in Malir
  2. Ibrahim Hyderi in Korangi

These centers are equipped with advanced tools and staffed by skilled technical teams to conduct comprehensive physical inspections of commercial vehicles. In the initial phase, 63 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 30 vehicles receiving fitness certificates, while 33 were deemed unfit.

Future Plans and Expansion:

The second phase of the project aims to extend these services to other divisional headquarters across Sindh, further enhancing the reach and effectiveness of the system. Regular snap checks will be conducted by designated officers to ensure compliance, and disciplinary actions will be taken against inspectors found issuing fake certificates.

Government’s Commitment to Road Safety:

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that this reform is a major step towards a paper-free office environment, better revenue management, and the elimination of fraudulent documentation. The initiative reflects the government’s dedication to improving road safety, reducing environmental pollution, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the transport sector.

This online fitness certificate system is expected to significantly contribute to the modernization of vehicle inspection processes in Sindh, promoting transparency and ensuring that only roadworthy vehicles operate on the province’s roads.
