The Punjab Home Department has issued an appeal to philanthropists and the general public to contribute their Zakat towards securing the release of indigent prisoners who have completed their sentences but remain incarcerated due to unpaid fines or compensation.

Current Situation:

  • Incarcerated Prisoners: Approximately 150 prisoners have fulfilled their jail terms but are still confined because they cannot pay fines or blood money, amounting to a total of Rs100 million.
  • Previous Efforts: In the previous year, contributions totaling Rs170 million facilitated the release of 226 such prisoners.

How to Contribute:

  • Punjab Prison Foundation Account: Donations can be deposited directly into the Punjab Prison Foundation’s account, ensuring that the funds are utilized for the release of these prisoners before Eid.
  • Direct Fine Payment: Donors also have the option to pay fines on behalf of specific prisoners by depositing the amount in a bank and submitting the challan form to the relevant jail for processing.

This initiative aligns with the spirit of compassion and generosity emphasized during the holy month of Ramadan, offering a chance for these individuals to reunite with their families in time for Eid-ul-Fitr.
