The Congress party has leveled serious accusations against the Modi government and the Election Commission, alleging a deliberate scheme to manipulate voter lists. Citing a report from The Indian Express, the party highlighted irregularities in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district where numerous names were slated for removal from voter rolls. This alleged manipulation, characterized by the Congress as a ‘vote theft’ game, raises significant questions about electoral integrity.

The central point of contention involves a village called Lohari Pur in Shamli, where 544 applications to remove names from the electoral roll were submitted on February 14th. According to reports, all the names targeted for deletion belonged to individuals from the Muslim community. The situation became even more suspicious when it was discovered that the person who submitted these forms, identified as Ved Pal, could not be found by anyone in the village.

Further investigation into the matter revealed that the applications themselves were likely fabricated. When questioned about the missing names and the phantom applicant, Shamli District Magistrate Arvind Chauhan reportedly stated that they were unable to locate Ved Pal. This admission strongly suggests that the submitted ‘Form 7’ applications were indeed fake, indicating a more extensive operation than initially perceived.

The Congress party is presenting this incident as evidence of a widespread conspiracy to disenfranchise voters. They contend that such a sophisticated operation, involving the systematic removal of specific community names through fraudulent means, could not be isolated to a single village. The party’s statement implies that this alleged vote manipulation, facilitated by errors or deliberate actions within the Election Commission’s systems like the EPIC database, is potentially happening across the country.

In response to these revelations, the Congress party has publicly accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission of orchestrating this ‘vote theft’ through the electoral roll system. The party’s strong stance suggests they intend to pursue this matter further, demanding accountability and transparency in the electoral process. The implications of these allegations, if proven true, could have serious repercussions for the upcoming elections and public trust in democratic institutions.
