Festivities in Karachi were dampened on the first day of Eid ul-Fitr as widespread rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, swept across the city. Several areas, including Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar, experienced downpours. Heavy winds and showers also affected Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth, and their surroundings.
The unexpected weather did not spare other parts of the metropolis either, with rainfall reported in North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, and North Karachi. Localities like Buffer Zone, Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad also saw precipitation. Even the coastal strips of Sea View and Clifton were not immune to the showers.
Authorities had to make swift adjustments to Eid congregational prayers due to the inclement weather. In numerous locations, open grounds designated for prayers were abandoned in favor of mosques as waterlogging made the usual venues unusable. This shift caused disruptions to the planned arrangements for the Eid gatherings.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had anticipated thunderstorms for Karachi on this day. While the rain offered a welcome respite from the heat, it significantly altered the traditional outdoor celebrations. The department indicated that intermittent showers might continue through the night.
Looking ahead, the skies over Karachi are expected to remain cloudy for the second and third days of Eid. Temperatures are forecast to peak around 31 degrees Celsius. This weather pattern suggests that any lingering outdoor Eid festivities might still face cool and potentially wet conditions.
